To prevent ChatGPT from spreading racist content at a rapid pace, OpenAI has huge amounts of data manually cleaned by underpaid workers in Kenya. They have to spend hours watching sexist, racist (etc.), and violent content.

Current status of the AI Act [COM (2021) 206 final]: Conformity assessment by inspection bodies should only be mandatory for one high-risk AI system: biometric identification from distance. This is not required for other high-risk systems, even though they are used in sensitive areas: Police work, migration control, recruitment. According to the AI Regulation, it is sufficient for the system developers to carry out the impact assessment themselves. This does not apply to authorities etc. that actually use these systems.
